Can you hear them? Every Thursday night from February
- April, 20 girls from ages 7 - 10 invade the gym of the Congregational Church of North Chelmsford. Their enthusiasm, energy, and constant cheering cannot be missed if you live in that neighborhood!
The gym has been a fury of activity - balls flying through the
air... laughter... running... never a dull moment and those girls keep the coaches on their toes! Passing, setting, serving,
hitting... it is all being taught and learned on a weekly basis!
Learning the basic skills of volleyball is not the only activity taking place in the gym. The girls were broken into two teams and were given the task of choosing team names. After much discussion and MANY creative options, the Team Names were announced:
THE FIRE BALLS

THE FIERCE OCEAN
Many skills, many games, and many laughs later, the girls also worked on some self-reflection on how to keep themselves healthy and in-check. By using the GoGirlGo! Curriculum, coaches and players get to know each other and work on their scrapbooks that address ways to teach healthy living and the various issues that young girls can face during these years. By working on this project with the girls, they learn the importance of a strong self-esteem, a tremendous level of self-respect, and to have confidence in the decisions they make. The coaches are strongly behind the values of promoting these healthy values and work with the girls to show them that they can be strong leaders, regardless of their ages.
We would like to take a moment and thank all of the players and parents for their commitment to this program. It has been a great introductory year and we look forward to working with all of you again in the future!
